Sometimes the stakes get higher: 2013 Kickstarter Video (not for the faint of heart)
Old Kickstarter Video from 2013
Back in 2013, this Kickstarter campaign went gangbusters, in large part due to the fact that I knocked out my front four teeth in a bicycle accident. The outpouring of support meant so much, and not just because I really did need the help. The support of this comic allowed me to be a full-time cartoonist for the first time in my life. The work I was able to do over the course of eight months is what I used in a grant application. I won that grant, which awarded me the funds to keep working as a cartoonist for another five months. Those pages are the ones that ultimately got the attention of my literary agent, and eventually turned into my first book with a mainstream publisher. In no uncertain terms, running into a pothole the size of my bike’s front wheel totally changed my life in unpredictable ways.
Thank yous so much to all of those that supported my comic making, and me, all those years ago.
